About Therapy
I'm nervous to start therapy. What should I expect?
This is normal and completely okay! I like to prioritise building strong relationships with my clients and so will spend time getting to know you so that I can understand your individual needs. In the beginning, we will be curious together and work to establish a trusting relationship.
Why do I need an initial hour appointment?
The initial appointment is very important so that we have time to take your history and establish your therapy goals. If you would prefer 30 minute sessions after this, you can book shorter sessions after you have completed your initial session with me.
Why can't I get eating disorder treatment with you through this website online?
Evidence Based eating disorder treatment requires a specialist multidisciplinary team and ongoing consultation. I am unable to provide this outside of my work with the New Zealand Eating Disorders Clinic (NZEDC).
Can I make an appointment for someone else without asking them?
No. It is very important that the person who the therapy is for is voluntarily choosing to engage in it.
Can Clinical Social Workers be therapists?
Yes! Clinic Social Workers more commonly work as therapists in North America and provide therapy from a place of understanding a person within their community and intersectional challenges.

Clinical Social Work is a specialty practice area of social work which focuses on the assessment, treatment, and prevention of mental illness, emotional struggles, and other behavioural challenges.
Individual, group, and family therapy are common treatment modalities within the scope of a Clinical Social Worker. During my studies in Canada, I completed 1150 supervised practicum hours during my BSW and MSW programs at community placements learning and applying clinical skills.
Does therapy work?
Yes! Therapy works when a few important things are aligned - a strong and trusting relationship between the therapist and the client, alongside the client's willingness to experiment with new things. You may need to try a few different therapist before you find the one that is right for you. Feeling comfortable and able to speak openly is imperative.
What if I am in a high risk situation?
Due to the nature and limitations of private practice and zoom therapy, I am unable to take on clients with active suicidal ideation. In this case, you will be referred to your local mental health team through your public health system for crisis intervention support.
